Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. It is based on the concept of channeling universal life force energy to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. The term "Reiki" combines two Japanese words: "Rei" (meaning universal or spiritual) and "Ki" (meaning life force energy).
Reiki originated with Mikao Usui, a Japanese spiritual teacher, in the early 20th century. Usui embarked on a quest for spiritual and healing knowledge, which led him to study ancient Sanskrit texts, including Tibetan Buddhist teachings. The story goes that he underwent a transformative experience on Mount Kurama, where he received divine insight and the Reiki symbols, which are central to the practice.
Usui's system of Reiki involves a practitioner transmitting this healing energy through their hands, either by gently touching or hovering them over the recipient. The energy flows to where it is needed most in the recipient's body, helping to balance their energy, release blockages, and promote physical and emotional healing.
Reiki's popularity has grown globally, and it's often used in conjunction with other holistic healing practices. It's valued for its ability to reduce stress, improve relaxation, and support the body's natural healing processes, making it a widely practiced and respected form of energy healing.
